Herbal teas—less commonly called tisanes —are beverages made from the infusion or decoction of herbs, spices, dried fruits or other plant material in hot water. This means herbal teas can come in a wide range of tastes and flavors and make a tempting alternative to sugary beverages or water. The term "herbal tea" is often used in contrast to true teas, which are prepared from the cured leaves of the tea plant, Camellia sinensis. In addition to being delicious, some herbal teas have health-promoting properties. In fact, herbal teas have been used as natural remedies for a variety of ailments for hundreds of years.
